OTTAWA, Ont. – The winter storm warning for Eastern Ontario and west Quebec has ended, according to Environment Canada; that includes the Ottawa-Gatineau region.

A combination of snow, ice pellets and freezing rain doused the Capital throughout the afternoon and evening on Friday.

This April storm is inconveniencing, at best, as City of Ottawa crews were already in spring mode — beginning street-sweeping operations.

“A lot of the plows had their attachments off,” said Kevin Wylie, manager of road and traffic operations. “The sidewalk machines had brooms on for the sweeping.”

As of 3:50 p.m., Ottawa Police reported 47 collisions in the city.

A power outage in the west end has been restored after an OC Transpo bus hit a hydro pole Friday morning. At its peak, the outage was affecting 5283 customers and traffic lights were out on Hunt Club, Merivale, Prince of Wales and in the entire Barrhaven area.

School buses were cancelled for Ottawa’s public and Catholic boards. All central OCDSB workshops were also cancelled.

Buses were also cancelled for the Upper Canada District School Board, the Catholic Board of Eastern Ontario and their corresponding French boards.

Buses in Renfrew County were cancelled with the exception of Whitney Elementary.
